Inspired by conversations about the currency fluctuations in Syria, it is an imaginative endeavor that challenges the very essence of money and materialistic pursuits.

 

It offers a compelling suggestion for us to introspect and contemplate sustainable and collaborative economic models.

As a participant in a critical-making course at St. Joost, I designed this project to challenge the concept of money. Due to the limited duration of the class, some concepts and ideas may come across as not fully explored.

By 2022, the cost of a single potato was 500 Lira. However, when converted to AED or Euro, this amount is not significant. Therefore, we may not feel the true impact of the current crisis.

It is technically feasible to substitute money with potatoes, although this would essentially transform potatoes into a form of capitalism. Nevertheless, we could use potatoes as a medium of exchange for services based on (gift giving) abundance value, instead of relying on monetary compensation.

While the income earned from selling potatoes is beneficial, it does not address the issues of inadequate power supply, inadequate healthcare systems, or poor road infrastructure...etc

A vending machine for potatoes serves as an intermediary between farmers and buyers, promoting an economy built on trust, abundance, and mutual benefit.
